Zade Williamson
Artist
Zade Williamson is a Marfa based oil painter whose process is informed by the complex particularity of location through the use of organic matter and entirely local pigments. Raw minerals are foraged and ground, while the dying agave is harvested and transmuted into maguey paper and cordage. This lengthy process transforms the common ochre into a precious resource while reshaping considerations around labor, consumption, and disposability. The restricted availability of materials and manual labor connects this work to a shared artistic and human experience dating back to prehistory.
Featured works draw inspiration from the mechanical processes and structures associated with contemporary American life. Circuitry and cellular systems alike become merged into abstract forms that mimic the biology and machine adaptations of the human body.
